Chosen Vessel
Author and business mogul, Ron Lewis, is an amazing talent form Southwest Detort. Recently, we had the opportunity to have an in depth conversation about his journey, sacrifice, and success. Learning from this gentleman proved to be worth the admiration I felt. As we spoke at our new found hangout, Ron gave the greatest advice that could be passed from generation to generation. “Before you tell someone who you are, know who you are.”
Growing up in a small Southwest Detroit town of Ecorse, Ron Lewis defied the odds that said he would not make it. Raised by his grandparents, he learned the efforts of responsibility and hard work at a young age. Arriving at Eastern Michigan University on a track scholarship, Ron found himself in an environment he knew he would conquer. Now at 52 years of age, Ron understands, “God uses you to be a vessel, no matter who you are.”
Being Real with Yourself, is a phenomenal read. It discusses the ideas and nuances that people go through and have difficulty dealing with. For a long while, there was an internal struggle that Ron shared. Being brought up as an only child and watching the sacrifices his grandparents made was a pressure that many have faced. While in school, Ron drifted to fast money and a flashy lifestyle. He recalled his grandfather picking him up from jail, after a drug raid. During this time, his grandfather told him, “He didn’t have to do anything crazy.” Detroit was already a difficult place to live. Illegal activity only made for more difficult times. Ron learned quickly, if you do not make life decisions, life will make decisions for you.
Ron never wanted to be an author. However, in revisiting the significant events that led to his friend being killed at an early age, Ron discovered, “Life is about change. And you must change.” He credits his success to having a relationship with a Higher Power. Finding time, patience, and money were three obstacles that he was forced to overcome. Nevertheless, he was able to purchase a home and tell his story as an author. Ron has been an inspiration to the World and many Ron Lewis’ that will never speak up.
