Fathers Are Important Too

Every year in May, stores are filled with shoppers, restaurants are bringing out the finest glassware, and churches are packed to capacity for what seems to be the most appreciated holiday, Mother’s Day. While we appreciate the dedication and sacrifice a Mother makes, without effort or question, we have somehow forgotten Father’s Day. This desolate holiday comes one month after we launch fireworks and fly jets to show our Mothers how much we appreciate them. Yes, Father’s Day is the stepchild of holidays.

Over the years, some Fathers have created a stigma that has caused many to lose interest in celebrating them at all. Some have fell short of taking care the responsibility of their child or children. Many have become disappointments in their communities. Others have set such low expectations for themselves, they look for a pat on the back for things deemed as a necessity. So what makes a Father needed?

Some would argue that a woman is capable of handling everything on her own. While this may be factual, a Father’s love and support is unmatched. For a daughter, there is nothing like being able to call your Daddy when you’re hurt or the man of your dreams has destroyed your heart. A Father that attends your ballet lessons or takes you to the Father-Daughter dance is incredible. Just a Father being a protector of you is a feeling that you will never lose. For a son, there is nothing like a Father showing you the ins and outs of being a confident man. A Father that gives wisdom and experience to match the truths he’s shown you along the way. Someone to throw the ball with, or ride around town talking to the pretty ladies. The importance of the Father is insurmountable.

As Fathers, it is more important, now than ever, to be stand up and honest about being a Dad. It is our responsibility to provide for our children and appreciate their Mothers in the process. Children need to see Fathers respecting the women they at one point loved, and supporting the child financially, whether they are in the home or not. When we as Fathers step up, our World will forever be changed for the best.
